MetaTana 2.0

A new design and seven pages in place of the old fourteen. Good matches file themselves, the rest wait in the Inbox, and Activity can undo file changes.

New look

  • A new design that puts your posters and backdrops first.
  • ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) opens Search or ask on every page, and Go to reaches every other place.
  • Press ? on any page for the keyboard shortcuts.

Seven pages

  • Home: what came in, what waits for you, and anything that needs fixing.
  • Library: titles, shows, people, collections, tags and stats.
  • Inbox: new files, matches to pick, duplicates, renames and files to write.
  • Folders: watched folders, naming and routing rules.
  • Sync: Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Kodi and Trakt.
  • Activity: what ran and what failed, with Undo and Retry.
  • Settings: General, Account, Providers, Files and Maintenance. Help replaces Support.
  • Old links and bookmarks open the new place. The 2.0 post has a table of where each old page went.

Editions and arrival recipes

  • Library › Browse by › Editions lists every movie with more than one edition, with its copies side by side.
  • Settings › General › After a title is filed shows which arrival recipes will run on the files waiting in the Inbox.

Undo in Activity

  • Undo renames, moves, Inbox approvals, duplicate cleanup, artwork changes and edits from Activity. A whole scan or batch can be undone at once.
  • Before MetaTana replaces an NFO or artwork file, it keeps the old copy for 30 days.
  • Pushes to media servers and Trakt, and artwork and subtitle fetches, have no Undo.

Free and Pro

  • Free: scan first, then add your own TMDb key for posters and details.
  • Pro: hosted metadata, with no key to set up.
  • Pro: AI Vision, 100 credits a month.
  • Pro: AI Insights, with your own AI key.
  • Pro: subtitles, Trakt, hooks and webhooks, the API key and CLI, and the MCP server.
  • Hooks and webhooks now need Pro. Saved ones are kept and run again when you upgrade.

Updating

  • Desktop: MetaTana offers 2.0 in its update dialog. Choose Restart when the download finishes, or check from Settings → General → Updates.
  • Docker: back up /app/data, then run docker compose pull && docker compose up -d.
  • Unraid: back up the appdata folder, then update the container when Unraid offers it.
  • TrueNAS: update from Apps when TrueNAS offers 2.0. The TrueNAS catalog can arrive later than the Docker image.
  • 2.0 upgrades the library database on first start and saves a Before upgrade copy first. Older versions cannot open the upgraded library.
  • Open MetaTana through your own domain or a reverse proxy? Add the name to METATANA_ALLOWED_HOSTS before you update.
  • Each install now belongs to the first account that signs in to it.
  • Upgrading to 2.0 has the details for each install type.
