These docs are for MetaTana 2.0, coming soon
Hosted Metadata
Hosted metadata is Skyhook's provider-backed metadata layer.
Request Shape
Hosted metadata requests are about identity and metadata. A request may include title, year, media type, season/episode context, provider IDs, language preferences, or artwork preferences.
Skyhook returns a result the app can preview and apply, never provider keys or raw provider data.
Cache-Backed Results
Skyhook can serve cache hits when the same normalized metadata has already been fetched and is still usable. Cache hits reduce provider traffic and make repeated app requests faster.
Caching follows each provider's terms. Some providers allow certain caching windows, some require attribution, and some stay local-only.
Provider Roles
Hosted metadata uses these providers:
- TMDb for primary movie and TV identity, metadata, and artwork
- TheTVDB for TV and episode metadata
Hosted answers show each provider's own score only. IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Metacritic ratings are not included; you get them in the app with your own OMDb key.
OMDb and Fanart.tv are not hosted: their terms don't allow it for a paid service. You can still add your own OMDb or Fanart.tv key in the app. MDBList and TVmaze are not hosted yet. Trakt, AniList, and MyAnimeList stay in the app and are not hosted unless their terms allow it.
Fallback
If hosted metadata is off, unreachable, not included in your plan, or has no usable result, the app continues with your own provider keys if you added them.
The app says which case applied. A hosted miss is never shown as a hosted result.
