Re-Scrape A Movie And Review The Diff

Provider data changes. Artwork gets replaced. Translations appear. A rescrape refreshes a title from the providers without losing your edits, and Review changes lets you accept changes one field at a time.

When to use this Use a rescrape when a title's metadata is out of date. For a wrong identity (a different record entirely) see Fix a wrong identity match. For refreshing many titles at once see Work through the metadata tasks queue.

Step 1: Open the title

In Library, select the poster. Skim the current values (title, year, overview, runtime, artwork) so the changes are easier to read.

Step 2: Open Rescrape

On the title's page, open ⋯ › Rescrape… (or press S). Rescrape opens with the current title in the search box and the provider results already listed, with the current match marked Current while another result is selected.

Rescrape with the current match selected, its details, and Cancel, Review changes and Apply match at the bottom.

Step 3: Read the changes

Pick the right result (for a rescrape of a correct identity, usually the one already selected), then select Review changes. The list highlights what would change; unchanged fields stay quiet.

Apply match (or Enter) skips this step when nothing locked would change and applies straight away with an Undo toast. On a movie or episode, that Undo restores the exact values you had before, including ones you edited or locked by hand. Use Review changes when you want to read the diff first.

When the chosen match would change nothing, Review changes shows Nothing to change instead of applying. Select Close to leave the title as it is, or Apply anyway to still run the file actions you picked, such as writing the NFO or artwork.

Read from the top: media type, title, year, and provider IDs first. A change there means the title now points at a different record, so check it carefully (see Fix a wrong identity match). Then overview, cast, artwork, ratings, and file details.

Your edits and locked fields are kept The list shows what the provider returned, but it doesn't apply it to locked fields, and a value you typed yourself wins over the provider's. Locked fields are marked **blocked by lock**, which shows your locks are working.

Step 4: Decide

From Review changes:

  • Accept all takes every proposed change (fields that aren't locked)
  • Accept or Keep on a single field, where one bad value would otherwise slip in
  • Apply (N) writes the N fields you accepted
  • Cancel goes back to the results without writing anything

A suggested match waiting for review on a title's page has the same per-field choice. Select Choose fields on its review card, mark each field to accept or keep, then select Approve match.

Step 5: Verify

The title's page shows the new values. Activity lists the rescrape and any NFO and artwork writes that followed. If anything looks wrong, the rescrape's row in Activity has Undo while it is still available.

File changes can be undone too. When the scrape replaced NFO or artwork files, the toast says Files updated for "…" and Replaced NFO and artwork files are kept in MetaTana trash, with an Undo button. Undo puts the previous files back; a file MetaTana created for the first time moves to the trash. The same Undo is on the operation in Activity. If any of those files changed after the scrape wrote it, for example because you or another app edited the NFO, Undo leaves every file as it is and names the file that changed. A scrape that downloaded a trailer cannot be undone.

What success looks like

  • The title's page shows the accepted values
  • Activity lists the rescrape with no errors
